Philippines: Communist terrorists’ extortion racket targets Chinese firms

Communist terrorist groups in the Philippines are now targeting Chinese companies in their extortion rackets as the communists suffer from defections and losses to the military.

A report in Radio Free Asia said the Communist Party of the Philippines ordered the harassment the Chinese firms mostly involved in construction projects:

In its statement, the CPP said it was ordering all of its guerrilla units to “mount more frequent tactical offensives” against the government and the Chinese firms.

“Use all possible types of weapons – from rifles and command-detonated explosives, to spears and punji sticks – against the enemy,” the CPP said.

Communists rebels have been resorting to terroristic activities in the Philippines, even using roadside bombs and IEDs which have also killed civilians and farmers.

They also extort protection money from construction companies. Those who don’t pay are attacked and their equipment burned.

The CPP’s armed wing, the New People’s Army, has suffered setbacks and is down to less than 5,000 fighters scattered in different parts of the Philippine archipelago. Aside from being killed by the Philippine Army in battles, communist terrorists also get executed by their own comrades in several communist party purges.

Recently, parents have condemned the NPA for recruiting children and using schools in tribal communities to recruit minors.
