Hormel creates face mask that smells like bacon

Food manufacturer Hormel has introduced an unusual new product – a face mask that purportedly smells like bacon.

Dubbed “Breathable Bacon,” the creation is part of Hormel’s promotion for its Black Label Bacon brand. The company claims the reusable cloth masks feature “pork-scented technology” to provide the aromatic essence of bacon wherever you go.

“We’re continually focused on innovation – from new products, to marketing and distribution – all in an effort to deliver new and exciting ways to experience and enjoy Black Label Bacon,” said Nick Schweitzer, Senior Brand Manager.

According to Hormel, the bacon-like scent comes from the mask’s two-ply construction rather than any real pork products.

Now through October 28, bacon aficionados can visit www.BreathableBacon.com and enter for a chance to receive a free mask. Hormel states they will donate one meal to Feeding America for every entry, up to 10,000 meals.

Wearers are encouraged to post photos of themselves in the masks using the hashtag #BreathableBacon.

This savory stunt is the latest in a series of technology-focused campaigns for Hormel’s Black Label Bacon following innovations like a bacon-themed virtual reality experience.

While the pork-scented masks may sound like an April Fool’s joke, they’re a real Hormel creation. Time will tell if the meat-inspired masks catch on or prove just a fleeting bit of bacon novelty.
